Healthy Club

Task: Have at least one representative at the District Convention in January.

Response: YES. We had eight members attend.

Task: Have at least one representative at two zone meetings over the course of the year.

Response: YES. Lion Chuck Cook attended all zone or region meetings.

Task: Send in a copy of your newsletter or other club communication device.

Response: YES. We have minor correspondence via the email and our web site three times a month and also have an article in the Tri-County News if not weekly then at least monthly. Tri-County News article attached.

Task: Send in one idea for fundraising that your club has used successfully.

Response: YES. Our club has had a lot of success with two public chicken barbecues and an annual dinner we cater for a large RV firm. We also hold an annual golf tournament and have been able to make raffle boards pay off.

Task: Send in a list of at least two speakers who have spoken to your club.

Response: YES. Mary Lou Finigin of Greyhound Pets of America spoke in October and Eseubalew Johnson of Ethiopia spoke to us in January on the difficulties of a blind man in Africa. Of course we also had Lions Jack Stoops and George DeHart and our police chief among others speak.

Task: Turn in all monthly club paperwork on time.

Response: YES. All required reporting is timely and is accomplished via the internet.

Extension and Retention

Task: Realize a net gain of two new members over the course of the year.

Response: YES! We lost eight members since July 1st but inducted ten more to replace them. I do not count our long-time member Lion Jim Hofenbredl as a loss as he passed away unexpectedly from cancer. We will also induct our new police chief and another policeman in May.

Task: Submit pictures and stories of at least one Club service project that changed someone’s life in your community.

Response: YES AND NO! At last count we will have supplied at least 30 pair of eye glasses to our local citizens. We do not publicize their names (even to our club members) and certainly do not take their pictures but change their lives, we do do that.

Task: Hold one Club meeting at a different time that usual and invite community members to "Learn About Lions".

Response: No. While we always invite guests to our meetings and our ten new members attest to that, we did not hold any meetings out of schedule.

Task: Invite your Region and Zone Chairs, District Extension and Membership Chairs to speak to your Club about how you can help sponsor a new Club or assist another Club in doing so.

Response: YES! Our Zone Chair, Lion Holly Sparks, visited/spoke at our September 15th, November 17th and March 2nd meetings and our Region Chair Lion Dan French visited/spoke at our November 17th and April 20th meetings.

Community Service

Task: Schedule the MHSU in your community.

Response: YES! We have scheduled the MHSU for October. One day for local grade schools and a Saturday for our Bi-Mart parking lot. We are responsible for manning the MHSU on Wednesdays at the Lane County Fair (Springfield Lions Club is the prime sponsor).

Task: Sponsor a youth to attend a Lions camp or HOBY.

Response: YES! We are sponsoring and have paid for a local boy to attend Gales Creek Camp in July.

Task: Send in pictures and an explanation of a community service project that this club has completed.

Response: YES! We held our annual Easter Egg Hunt in March and I am enclosing a new paper picture of our Lion Bunny (Chief Chuck Salsbury). We also own a stretch of Highway 99 for clean up, assist with parking and awnings at the March Daffodil Festival, act as greeters and parking attendants at the annual Junction City Business Fair and provide crossing guards for Laurel Elementary School.

Task: Contribute to the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.

Response: YES! We contributed $1,000.00 at the D36-R Convention in January and will contribute another $1,000.00 at the MD36 convention.

Task: Invite your OLS&HF Trustee to speak at one meeting.

Response: YES! Lion George DeHart was our speaker, January 5th, 2009.

We have completed 13 of the 15 tasks fully and can take at least partial credit for the other two. I submit that the Junction City Lions Club is a proper candidate for the Governor’s Challenge Award for 2008/2009.

Yours in Lionism,
